Child and Adolescent Services

Michiana Behavioral Health (MBH) provides acute and residential inpatient mental health care for children adolescents, ages 6 – 17.  It is important to seek help if you think your child or adolescent is suffering from a mood disorder. At MBH, our trained staff offers  no cost assessments and will discuss the next steps of treatment.  MBH’s  therapeutic approach to treating youth ensures we provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Acute Program for Children ages 6-12 offers:

  • Identify and treat mood disorder/mental health problems that interfere with growth and development
  • Teach children practical coping skills and effective ways to express their emotions and concerns
  • Provide family-focused treatment to help strengthen the family unit and continue positive change
  • Structured study hall allowing a patient to maintain studies with ongoing contact from primary school
  • Our Family Program provides information and education related to Continuum of Care (from outpatient to hospitalization), reasons for hospitalization, typical diagnoses seen in the hospital, typical lengths of stay, medications used in the hospital, discharge planning, follow up care, and medication compliance
  • Age specific treatment protocols designed to meet an individual patient’s needs
  • Psychoeducational Groups providing information to our patient population by clinical, nursing, and direct care staff teaching within their respective field of expertise

Acute Program for Adolescents ages 13-17 offers:

  • Provide adolescents and families with the help they need for handling emotional pain, serious life problems, developmental struggles and behavioral issues.
  • Structured study hall allowing a patient to maintain studies with ongoing contact from primary school
  • Group Psychotherapy encouraging honest evaluation into behavioral maladjustments and reinforcing pro-social coping mechanisms.
  • Our Family Program provides information and education related to Continuum of Care (from outpatient to hospitalization), reasons for hospitalization, typical diagnoses seen in the hospital, typical lengths of stay, medications used in the hospital, discharge planning, follow up care, and medication compliance.
  • Psychoeducational Groups providing information to our patient population by clinical, nursing, and direct care staff teaching within their respective field of expertise.

Residential Care Programs for Child/Adolescents ages 6-19 offers:

  • Daily visits with a Psychiatrist
  • Child and Adolescent residential treatment
  • Family-focused treatment and education
  • Structured schooling from Marshall Co. school system
  • Group psychotherapy and psychoeducation
  • Team-building activities
  • Educational and recreational outings
  • 24-hour nursing care
