Michiana Behavioral Health is not just a hospital, it is an environment dedicated to helping patients restore their health and get a fresh start. Located in Plymouth, Indiana in a rejuvenating wooded setting, Michiana Behavioral Health provides each patient with comprehensive behavioral health treatment from compassionate and caring staff. We offer services to children, adolescents, adults and seniors on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Robert Raster, M.D. 
Medical Director

Dr. Raster has been practicing Psychiatry in the Michiana area for 19 years. After graduating from The University of Notre Dame in 1988, followed up with a medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1992 and completed his Psychiatry Residency at Northwestern in In 1996.  He earned certification as a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  Dr. Raster loves the interesting work he does at Michiana Behavioral Heath, and the nice staff he gets to interact with on a daily basis. “They make my job a lot easier,” he says, “because in my position, I’m working daily doing what I love, but the staff is why I walk through the doors with a smile on my face.”

John Zwerneman, M.D.
Child and Adolescent Unit Coordinator

Dr. Zwerneman has been practicing Psychiatry in the Michiana area for over 18 years.  In addition to being the child and adolescent unit coordinator at Michiana Behavioral health, Dr. Zwerneman also serves as Midwest Center and South Shore’s Medical Director since 2013. He attended medical school at the University of North Carolina and received his undergraduate degree at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., and did graduate coursework at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.  Dr. Zwerneman also has extensive experience as a medical missionary in various countries including Israel and Grenada, West Indies.  He says he “enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with children, adolescents and their families and watching their lives improve.”

Mallikarjun Patta, M.D.
Adult Unit Coordinator

Dr. Patta has been practicing psychiatry for over 15 years.  He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degrees from Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. He later received his Master of Medical Sciences at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom and performed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Dr. Patta is board certified in general psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine and his work has been published in various publications including the British Journal of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Times. It is important to Dr. Patta to, “collaborate with my colleagues at Michiana Behavioral Health.”
